Reflecting on our Winter Fayre – a festive success

The air was crisp, the mood festive, and the spirit of community was lively at our recent Winter Fayre – an event that not only brought cheer but also rallied support for dementia care in Oxfordshire.

Raising spirits and funds

Our Winter Fayre was more than just a gathering, it was a testament to the power of community. With over 10 service providers and stalls joining us, we were able to share some vital information; from Oxford’s Home Improvement Agency to the NHS’s Oxford University Hospitals, we want to thank all of the local organisations that came along. Some of the lovely stalls even sold handmade arts and crafts in aid of dementia support, helping us to raise over £700! Each pound collected will be instrumental in furthering our mission to provide essential support to those affected by dementia.

The heartbeat of the event was the array of entertainment on offer. From the lively Zumba sessions led by Nora to the enchanting melodies of Kay Davies and her choir. Laughter and music resonated throughout the day. “She was such a character, she should be on stage!” said one guest about Kay and her choir. Nora, the Zumba instructor told us “It was truly magical, thank you!”. The joy of the performances and all those who participated have lingered with us long after the day was done.

Savouring sweet success

The bake-off was a highlight, featuring an irresistible selection of treats. Among them, the undisputed champion emerged—the delicious chocolate orange brownies! From jammy dodgers and lemon drizzle to traditional Carribean rum cake and walnut, pineapple, and carrot cake, the competition fierce, but it was this chocolate creation that stole the show.

We also served up a hearty lunch of soup, savouries, and mince pies for all of those that joined us!

Amidst the festive success, we provided a quiet space for individuals to engage with a Dementia Adviser confidentially. This opportunity for one-on-one conversations allowed for sharing, guidance, and a sense of reassurance.

Most of all, we have to thank the wonderful people who showed up and provided such a brilliant turnout. We hope everyone had just as good of a time attending, as we did hosting!

My first time going, I thought it was fabulous. Friendly, informal, and informative. It’s brilliant, we came on our own and got to meet a bunch of our friends!

Brilliant, the best one I’ve been to! Met a lot of my support workers too.

Very much enjoyed the Winter Fayre, my favourite part was the music. He’s got dementia and he’s got something like 100s of CDs, the violin performance was great because he likes the classics.
