Admiral Nurse Vacancy

About the role

Age UK Oxfordshire has delivered the Dementia Oxfordshire service for over 10 years, and the contract has just been renewed until 2030.  An Admiral Nurse has been embedded in the service since 2023.

This role is a continuation of the collaboration between Dementia UK and Age UK Oxfordshire, building on the initial two-year pilot.

The Admiral Nurse is a specialist nurse who offers expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families involved in the care of a person living with dementia with complex needs.

Main duties of the job

The Admiral Nurse will split their time equally:

  • Supporting the Dementia Adviser team, working alongside them to manage complex cases.
  • Taking a proactive role in educating and influencing the wider health and social care system in Oxfordshire to improve dementia care in the county.

The Admiral Nurse will lead the ongoing development and delivery of our established awareness and education programme for healthcare professionals, while proactively influencing the wider health and social care system across Oxfordshire to improve dementia care. We are seeking a clinician with strong dementia expertise and leadership skills who can champion best practice and act as a credible, influential voice within the system.

You will be joining a well-established team with a strong reputation for excellence. The purpose of this role is to strengthen and extend our influence across the dementia care system, both within the county and beyond. This post requires a confident leader who can support service development, build effective partnerships, and help shape the future of dementia care in the area.

You will receive ongoing support from Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care. You will become part of the wider network of Admiral Nurses and will have the opportunity to access relevant post graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.
