Could you help with research about hospital admissions for people living with dementia?

Research study

Dementia Oxfordshire is pleased to support a new research study led by Kerri Rance, a PhD candidate in Dementia Studies at Lancaster University and Oxfordshire resident. Kerri is exploring the experiences of informal carers — family members and friends — who have supported someone living with dementia during an acute hospital stay.

This important study aims to understand both the challenges and the positive moments for the person living with dementia and their carer during hospital admissions. The findings will help improve care practices and inform training for healthcare professionals, ultimately enhancing support for people living with dementia and their carers.

Who can take part?

If you are a carer for someone with dementia who has been admitted to hospital for 24 hours or longer during the past two years, your insights could make a real difference. Participation involves sharing your experiences confidentially, and all responses will contribute to Kerri’s PhD thesis and future publications.

What will be involved?

If you decide you would like to take part, you will be asked to complete a consent form and to undertake an interview with the researcher to discuss your experiences when your family member or friend who you care for was admitted to the hospital.  It is anticipated that the interview will take up to one hour. The interview can be undertaken online (via Microsoft Teams) or by telephone, or if you prefer a face-to-face interview at a place of your choice within Oxfordshire. To allow for the analysis of the data, the interview will be recorded with your permission.
