Taqwa works in Oxford City and North Oxford. She has been with Dementia Oxfordshire for over 3 years, starting as a Dedicated Support Worker and then progressed to a Dementia Adviser.
“I think working as a Support Worker has been a great way to see just how important it is that those diagnosed with Dementia live a fulfilled life. Clients need to feel that they are included in the local community and have a variety of activities that they can be involved with. It is important to me that clients still have choice over what they like to do and are given the support and confidence to try these activities out. I have been able to offer such services through running groups and information days. As the needs of clients change, I am able to regularly make contact with the clients and offer further support. I believe that the continuation in care is an amazing thing that Dementia Oxfordshire can offer in order to gain a positive, trustworthy relationship between the Dementia Adviser and client.
Taqwa has a varied background, working for Thames Valley Police for a number of years before working with older adults in their homes. She has a Diploma in Sociology and an NVQ 3 in Dementia Studies. She is currently studying for a Diploma in Dementia Studies to further her knowledge.
